Christmas Traditions

It is the time of year when most families share in a Christmas tradition.  This could be anything that your family does each year from putting up the tree together, letting the youngest child put the star at the top of the tree, making and decorating gingerbread houses, making a certain kind of candy to share with family and friends, caroling in the neighborhood,  attending church services and the list goes on and on.  What is a Christmas tradition at your house?  If you don't have one, what tradition would you like to see your family start?

A Christmas tradition that my family shared while growing up was getting new pj's each year. We always got to open one gift early on Christmas Eve and that gift was a new pair of pj's. After opening this gift my sisters and I would put on our new pj's and hang out watching TV before needing to get ready for midnight mass. We were arrived home from church we always found that Santa had come while we were gone. Mom and Dad let us stay up and open our gifts and play with the toys we received. We would go to bed really late and sleep in the next morning.

My family's tradition is to make a calendar of what we do all of the month of December. Some things we do is make gingerbread houses, sleep under the Christmas tree, watch a candy cane movie and eat candy canes, and drive around town drinking hot cocoa.

My Christmas tradition is to build a gingerbread house. My mom, dad and I always get up at 5:00AM to open presents. My Mom, dad and I go to my grandma Jeans house. We go and have a competition to get presents that we want. Then we go home to our house to have a celebration to.

Every year we put up a real tree because it is no fun when you don't have to clean up after it. We love to go skiing up in Colorado at Ski Cooper. We always put up a boat ornament last because it is our favorite. We also go snow boarding or sledding behind our four-wheelers or just down our hill. We each open one present from little to big. We drive around Holton, Topeka, and Larkingburg looking at Christmas lights. We always go by this one house it is in the country but it has so much yard art and different lights. We also open presents together. We sometimes watch the Christmas Day Parade.
