Olympic Day at Jackson Heights 2008

The Olympics came to Jackson Heights on Friday, September 8. The student body was divided into 20 multiage teams with each team representing a different country around the world. The afternoon was spent with teams competing against one another playing cooperative games. A fun and memorable day was enjoyed by all.

The country we represented was Finland and our team color was pink. I really enjoyed watching the older students interact with the younger students. The ladder relay was very competitive and there was a lot of teamwork involved. The first time we did the T-shirt relay our team had problems as we couldn't get the shirt up and over the next person's head. We finally figured out that you needed to have your arms straight out when you interlocked with the next person. This made the job much easier. For those who were really big, the hula hoop presented some challenges as they had a harder time getting their whole body through the hoop. There was a lot of cheering and hollering going on. Everyone did an excellent job of working together to have fun.

We presented Venesuela and the color we had to wear light blue. It was very fun.The t-shirt relay was very hard because we had to lock arms. we got a tie thanks to my grandma she shouted tie! The ladder relay was hard because we had to hold a stick so the girl could walk. My teacher was Mrs.Kuglin.

Sometimes it was hard to be patient and wait your turn. I was on Mrs. Hufford's team and we wore pink. We won the t-shirt relay. Their was a ladder relay and a hula hoop relay. We were Finland and we went against Jamaica. We got 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We could have had it outside but it rained so we did it inside but I had fun.

I missed Olympic Day but am very glad you have Grandparents Day. My sister said her grandchildren's school does not have it any more and she really missed not being able to go for them so I am glad I was able to get off work to come. Thanks again.
