Verbs....Verbs....Verbs
We have been working with verbs for several days now. You have learned about action verbs and helping verbs. I would like for you to write 4 sentences. Each sentence must include a helping verb. You can only use the helping verb one time. This shouldn't be difficult as there are 23 to choose from.

4-H Ambassadors Visit
During National 4-H Week, ambassadors from Jackson County paid a visit to our classroom. These young ladies shared with students reasons why you would want to join 4-H. They also brought various projects that they had completed throughout the year and showed at the county and state fair. They talked about livestock projects as well. We thank them greatly for taking the time to visit us. I know as a teacher it is very easy to pick out students who are in 4-H, they are more than willing to get in front of their class and talk. They have the confidence to do this because of their experiences from 4-H.

Football Players Advice
JH Cobra football players paid a visit to the elementary classrooms on Friday to talk to students about making good choices. Our class had the priviledge of having Adam Amon, Tim Rupnicki and Dustin Davis visit us. They surprised the students when they handed out individual football trading cards to the students. This was a very meaningful experience for all involved. Take a moment and read the thoughts of the 3rd graders and what they learned from their peers.

Red Rock Ranch
On Friday, August 24th we took a field trip to the Red Rock Ranch. The students watched a video about the Flint Hills while sitting on their bedrolls. Then they rotated through 4 different sessions. The sessions were singing old time songs as Ellen Durst played the piano and song leaders Zev Allen and Kelly Holliday led the singing. Deb Brown explain the many uses of a bandana and other tack that a cowboy might use. Each student was given their own bandana. Luke Schreiber led a session titled "Chuckwagon 101". He shared many things about the importance of the chuckwagon. Students got to get up close and personal with a horse after learning about safety while being around a horse and the use of the tack. Students were treated to hot biscuits and drinks before loading the buses for home. It was a wonderful afternoon and we thank Red Rock Ranch for hosting us. A big thanks goes out to USD 335 administration for allowing us to go.

Technical Writing
Students were given an assignment to write the steps for brushing your teeth. I then demonstrated what they had written as they read them to me. Garrett's instructions were better than most as he at least told to take the lid off the toothpaste. He didn't how ever tell exactly where to put the toothpaste, thus it is on the end of the brush. Now they are writing how to make toast leading into a demonstration talk on "How to Do". Look for pictures of their demonstrations in the coming weeks.
